210cm Madshus "Dobbel Box" VM 1982 Commemorative Racing Skis - RARE!!
We don't sell a lot of fiberglass skis here at Skifabrikk, but when we do you can rest assured that they are pretty special. Take for instance this pair of Madshus "Dobbel Box" racing skis with commemorative graphics celebrating the 1982 nordic worlds at Holmenkollen/Oslo.
Any nordic history nerd knows about the '82 worlds. Oddvar Brå won his only individual Olympic or VM gold medal. Bill Koch complemented his silver at the '76 Olympics with the only cross-country world championship medal (bronze in the 30k) ever won by an American - this record held up until 2015 when USA G.O.A.T Jessie Diggins and Caitlin Compton Gregg finished 2-3 in the 10k free. Lastly, of course, the infamous "brakk staven" men's 4x10km relay took place at VM ‘82. Swix was launching a rebrand of their pole line (retiring the Liljedahl marque), but Oddvar Brå's boron didn't get the memo, snapping during a race to the finish line in a tussle with Soviet Alexsandr Zavyalov.
Well that has little to do with these skis, but it's fun history. Lillehammer-based Madshus is one of two Norwegian survivors of the nordic industry shake-out that occurred in the mid-70s when fiberglass skis replaced wood as the material of choice. Unlike their neighbors, the carpetbagging wax company, Madshus has been in Lillehammer for over 100 years. Historically they were a manufacturer of solid turski and fjellski (backcountry), but along the way picked up a few VM/OG medals - Madshus skis were popular among elite Norwegian women in the 60s and 70s. The acquisition of the Landsem brand in the early 80s gave the company additional market reach. Now, Madshus regularly is seen on the podium of nordic and biathlon races.
Anyway, these are cool skis.
